April 30: A two day Training Programme was organized at Aizawl Diocese to train the Student Leaders and Animators along with electing the DEXCO for the present year during their First Diocesan Council. It was for the first time that this programme was held.

On 27th the Unit Student Leaders of YCS/YSM Aizawl Diocese gathered together at Bishop’s House, Ramthar Veng, Aizawl. Along with them Diocesan Sunday School Board Chairman Mr. Clement Lalrema and DCTP (ICYM) Diocesan President Mr. Joseph C. Thantluanga and a few Animators were present. The programme began with the Holy Mass offered by the Bishop of Aizawl Diocese Most. Rev. Stephen Rotluanga csc. He insisted on having this movement in his Diocese for the faith formation and student leadership in the parishes. During his preaching he touched upon how the biblical persons like some prophets and kings found it difficult to work for the Lord yet with the help of the almighty they could do everything. Similarly he asked the student leaders to take up leadership in the parishes and society for the well being of our brethren.

After the Mass the lights were lit as a mark of inauguration and then all went for refreshment. Then all the participants gathered together in the hall for the felicitation programme which was guided by Fr. James Zodinliana, DYD/Chaplain. Bishop Stephen Rotluanga csc welcomed the dignitaries and requested them to help this Diocese with their training and presence time to time. He wished them well and thanked to National Chaplain Fr. Charles who visited this Diocese twice in a short span of 6 months with regard to training of YCS Students. He also welcomed Sr. Agnes Sanihe, msmhc the North East Regional Chaplain and Sr. Regina Mareem msmhc the North East Regional Youth Coordinator. Miss Rebecca Khiangte, the Aizawl Diocese YCS Coordinator gave the report and explained the gathering purpose of having this programme. Sunday School Board offered to support this programme whole heartedly.

After this Fr. Charles took up the issue of membership and restructuring the movement in the diocese. With the help of the present statutes he clarified the membership issue and age group issue which need to be sorted out with Youth movement. Since YCS is a student movement having its roots in the International movement informed the persons concerned that the diocese may set apart age 13 to 18 for YCS and then only to join ICYM. It is because of the nature of this movement and age group of these student members. They are growing physiologically, psychologically, emotionally etc. As they grow up faith formation and personality development plays an important role in their life. Hence they need to be trained well to face the social reality and life situation.

He set apart September 1 as the D date, those who complete 18 on that day may join ICYM or allowed to continue in YCS till the present academic year and all agreed to this suggestion. This has been introduced in many dioceses which have Parish YCS units and will be amended and approved in the statutes of YCS in the forthcoming National Council. This has been brought to the notice of CBCI to approve the rules during the National Council. DYD and the Bishop agreed to this suggestion and promised to do the needful soon.

Aizawl Diocese did not have DEXCO or DTS so far. Hence Fr. Charles explained to the members about restructuring of DTS. Bishop being the head, DYD and Coordinator play an important role along with elected DTA for the training of the student members. He explained them the structure of YCS from Cell to the Diocesan body and asked them to follow this strictly so that we have elected group to work for the movement.

He then explained them the nuances of conducting Cell meeting in detail. It should be student oriented, occurring often which needs immediate attention. Several examples were given to make them understand how it functions for the change of self and attitudes in the life of a student member which becomes a way of life. The programme ended at 4 pm.
