April Fools day is the first day of April. In English speaking countries, people play pranks on others this day. The jokes victim is called on April Fool. The observance began in France after the adoption of a reformed calendar by Charles IX in 1564. France was the first nation to adopt this calendar. Until that time New Year celebration began on March 21 and ending on April. when people gave New Year gifts.

When New Year’s day was celebrated on January 1, some people still celebrate it on April 1. Thus those people came to be known as April Fools. The custom of fooling friends and relatives on that day became popular in France, and gradually spread to other countries.

April Fools Day may be celebrated to the ancient Roman Festival Hilaria, which celebrates the resurrection of god Altis. In France, this victim is called an April Fish and in Scotland, an April gawk.
