Deepalvali is one of the most important festivals. It is celebrated all over India in a grand manner.

There is a story related regarding to its origin. There was once a great demon by name Narakasura. He was very wicked and cruel. He teased mot only men of this world but also gods of heaven. Sages could not perform their sacrifices without trouble. All prayed to lord Krishna for help. He fought the demon and killed him. At the hour of his death he requested that the day of his death should be celebrated in a fitting manner. This boon was granted and today we are having this to celebrate the joy over his death. The whole story depicts that ignorance is Asura and light is shed when ignorance is conquered.

Early in the morning we take oil bath and wear new clothes. The youngsters pay their respects to the elders and get their blessings. Children and young ones fire crackers and delight themselves. The whole house is well lighted. They share sweets with their neighbours and relatives.

People in the north celebrate in a different way. They adorn their houses with many lights. Marwardis open fresh account that day. For it makes the beginning of the New Year for them. All Hindus, rich and poor also celebrate this festival.
