Sankar and Salim are not only hostel mates but also thick friends. When the school closed for the summer holidays, Salim invited Sankar to his house. Sankar likes the hills and therefore he readily accepts the invitation.

Sankar reached Salims house. The cool climate, the natural surrounding and the scenic beauty of Kodaikanal made Sankar extremely happy. Everything was wonderful to him.

After two days Salim invited Sankar to roam around the forests and fields. They started early in the morning. On the way they came across a pool of water with plenty of fish in it. Sankar picked up a stone and asked Salim, “Shall I strike at fish”, “Yes”, said Salim. Sankar struck at one fish and the rest disappeared under water.

After some distance they came across a lake with plenty of storks. Sankar picked up another stone and threw it at the storks. The stone hit one while the other flew away.

Both the friends continued the journey until they reached a paddy field where some women were planting seedlings while their children were playing under some trees.

Sankar said, “In the pool there were plenty of fish and I threw a stone at them. Later I threw another stone at the storks also. Now the Children of these women are playing together. Shall I throw a stone at them also?” “No”, said Salim. But Sankar did not pay heed to what Salim sold. He threw a stone and hit the legs of one of the children. The children began to cry aloud, which brought all the women running in to the spot.

Thus we can say that human beings have feelings, and compassion for others.

Only a person with deep feelings can understand the feeling of others.
