15th August is a memorable day in the life of every Indian. Almost 300 years of in-human British rule came to an end. The sacrifice of thousands of Indians despite their variations in religion, caste, languages and races etc, the British who originally came to our mother land as traders became the masters of our country. They exploited our resources to the maximum. Although their coming here had its own advantages our fore fathers were ill treated to a great extent.

We Indians suffered oppression till the times of M. K. Gandhi and Nehru. Let us face facts of the past. Though we suffered oppression for more than 300 years it took only one frail looking simple humble man to free us from the clutches of the British. What did Gandhiji have that 260 years of freedom fighters did not have? Yes, he certainly had the unity of the Indian masses before him. This was the secret of his success. During his time Indians throughout the country rose as one force against the British. Hence our Independence was attained within a short period.

A renowned author once said ‘It is during times of oppression that common people raise as one’. This proved true to us because our forefathers irrespective of their caste, creed or religion rose as one, against the British. But now the situation of India is totally different. Equality and fraternity have been lost. People use all sorts of unfair means to make money. Instance of violence are on the rampage. Let’s take A solemn oath that, come what may, we as true Indians, will stand up for peace and justice inculcating the values of Equality and Fraternity in the hearts and minds of every Indian born of Indian soil.
