The existence of forests in limited areas adds to the beauty and wealth of a nation. There is a wrong conception among people that forests are dreadful areas occupied by wild animals and therefore they should be destroyed and the beasts killed mercilessly. Of late deforestation is carried on at a rapid pace, causing ecological and climatic imbalances. The following facts will show how useful the forests are to mankind and what must be done to preserve them.

Forests generally abound with various types of trees with luscious leaves. It is scientifically proven that the green leaves of trees attract moisture from the air which causes clouds and eventually rains. Many rivers flow through forests and their flow is resisted by trees, shrubs etc, making the waters move slowly so as to prevent soil erosion by frequent floods.

Moreover, forests are the abodes of useful trees like teak which are required for making furniture and for other industrial purposes. Many fruit bearing trees are also found in the forests. Many medicinal herbs are traceable in the forests.

The animal world should be protected and preserved. Elephants, horses etc can be tamed to serve mankind. Wild animals like lions; tigers etc should not be hunted. Failure to initiate adequate measures would result in the extinction of rare species.

From the above text one would understand the importance of forests. Therefore the heritage of forests should be preserved and protected from all forms of evil.
